Defense Security Services (DSS) assigns a security rating to contractor facilities after each security inspection. The security rating is the Industrial Security Representative's overall assessment of the effectiveness of the security systems and procedures that are set in place to protect classified information within the facility.
A superior rating is reserved for contractors who have consistently and fully implemented the requirements mandated by the National Security Program Operating Manual (NISPOM). To achieve this rating, the facility must document procedures that go above and beyond the security requirements mandated by NISPOM and the security awareness of the contractor employees and the cooperation within the security community. This rating requires a sustained high level of management support for the security program and the absence of any security deficiencies.
